Tim White first joined the Treasurer’s Office in June 1992 as a Legislative Liaison to the House and Senate and quickly moved into Investment Advisory. Tim has served in many roles over 26 years, including Chief Investment Officer, before he was appointed to his current role as Director of Endowments managing the State’s Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund (PLETF). Tim has served under eight State Treasurers and is the longest-tenured Investment Manager on staff.
Tim has managed the PLETF’s stock portfolio since equities were first introduced to the Fund in 1998 and made the first ever stock trade in state history for the PLETF. He is Chief Strategist and has ultimate decision-making responsibility on all holdings and trades within the PLETF’s fixed-income and stock portfolios. During his tenure, the fair market value of the PLETF has gone from $475 Million in 1992 to an all-time high of $6.17 Billion on August 31, 2018. In addition, the PLETF has provided beneficiaries with nearly $2 billion in distributions; most of which going to K-12 schools. Under Tim’s leadership, the PLETF has frequently outperformed many other endowments as reported by the National Association of College and University Business Officers on a 1, 3, 5, and 10-year basis.
By managing money committed to public schools forever, Tim places tremendous importance on protecting the financial welfare of current and future generations of Arizona children. Tim was born in Iowa and played college baseball for the University of Iowa. He is a graduate of Northern Arizona University with a degree in Finance and also studied at the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University.
